PINELLAS PARK, FLA. -- A 27-year-old intoxicated woman faced a felony child abuse charge Thursday after holding her son out of a moving SUV, police said, and she reportedly didn't take the incident seriously.
Witnesses told investigators that Christina Adams, 27, of Pinellas Park, was seen dangling her 5-year-old out of the car Wednesday night.
Witnesses also said they watched in shock as Adams at some points forced the child to run beside the car to keep up.
According to a police news release, Adams was belligerent and drunk when she was arrested. She was taken to jail and her son was given to a relative.
The Tampa Tribune reported that Adams, who is unemployed, said the boy was trying to climb out the window and she was keeping him from doing so, Forseth said. She denied dragging the boy by the hand while he was outside the vehicle, Capt. Sanfield Forseth said.
She didn't appear to be taking the investigation into her actions seriously, Forseth told the newspaper.
An adult in the SUV told police the 5-year-old was causing a ruckus. She said Adams was holding him out the window until he calmed down, Forseth told the Tribune.
